In 1907 Georg Abeking and Henry Rasmussen founded a yard for boat and yacht building specialising in wooden craftsmanship, along the banks of the River Weser. The facility developed into a highly-modern compact shipyard, with room for ships over 80m in length.
Today the company's main focus is still ship and yacht building, with Abeking & Rasmussen delivering to clientele all over the world.
The following types of ships are built at A&R:
Motor and sailing yachts
A&R is one of the few shipyards worldwide to offer top-of-the-range motor and sailing yachts.
Our motor yachts are built between 50m-80m, using a team of global naval architects and designers.
We also build high-tech sailing yachts with classical lines. Our high-quality and long-lasting yachts, complete with the unique and intensive experience they provide, makes our products safe investments.
Navy ships with mine countermeasures
For more than 90 years A&R has been a partner of several worldwide navies. Our main focus when constructing navy ships is on mine countermeasures. We regard ourselves as the most experienced German shipyard in this field, having produced more than 360 units.
We can produce patrol boats up to 80m in length, auxiliary ships, and we also construct components for submarines. Equally, we can also provide maintenance and repair operations.
Coastguard ships and Deep Vee hulls
A&R was a pioneer in the development of state-of-the-art Deep Vee hulls for seaworthy patrol boats. For navies and coastguards vessels, our broad range of designs can provide speeds in excess of 40 knots.
The Deep Vee hull was originally built for the Turkish and Saudi Arabian Coast Guard, but nowadays is considered standard for most fast patrol boats. A&R has recently delivered a group three 66m patrol vessels to the German Coastguard (Bundesgrenzschutz).
SWATH ship building
The revolutionary SWATH hull concept presents a superior alternative to conventional ship hulls due to its unique sea keeping and manoeuvring features in rough seas. It can be used for numerous applications such as offshore, coastguard, research and surveillance missions.
